Our marathon of snowsports fundraising events started with the wonderful Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) Ski Challenge. The LSH Ski Challenge welcomed over 100 property owners, occupiers, fund managers and managing directors for an unforgettable three days in Courmayeur, Mont Blanc.
As LSH’s new charity partner, we hosted our infamous Team Distance Challenge as part of the event. Teams received a top of the range GPS tracker and were tasked with completing the most km’s over a 90-minute period. Participants took any route they liked and used any strategy to maximise distance. Even LSH’s CEO Ezra Nahome took part! Hear about his Team Distance Challenge experience below.
A massive congratulations to Team Lake (pictured below) for winning the coveted Team Distance Challenge trophy. They skied an amazing 33.9km in just 90 minutes. Well done to everyone who took part and for making the day such a success and we hope you had as much fun as we did! Collectively you raised £2124! Thank you so much for the support and we hope to see you next year.
Next up was the highly entertaining Inter-Livery Ski Championships (ILSC). The ILSC welcomes teams and individuals from all livery companies in the City of London for 3 days of friendly ski competition in Morzine.
It was fantastic to meet so passionate people from so many historic livery companies and we were blown away by their enthusiasm for our Team Distance Challenge. Teams enjoyed breath-taking views of Morzine while they clocked up as many kms as possible across a 3-hour period. Well done to Team Going For Gold for covering a record 55km in just 180 minutes! Hear from Christopher Hudson, the event’s organiser below.
Not only were teams competitive on the slopes but they are off the slopes too. So far, they have raised and incredible £14,437 and the donations are still coming in as the teams battle for Top Fundraiser glory. Thank you! We really loved your enthusiasm for our snowsports fundraising challenge, and we were so honoured to be a part of your event. We also think that the start of your Team Distance Challenge (video below) is one of the best we have seen so far, livery men and women running for their skis in all directions! Hopefully we will see you all next year!
Our biggest snowsports fundraising event of the year is the AJ Bell Alpine Challenge and this year was no different. 15 teams raised and awesome £25,000+ for us! Thank you!
The sun shone and the snow was in great condition for the event, which saw the teams navigating their way around the enormous Portes du Soleil ski area collecting 50 checkpoints and racking up the kms in a bid to be crowned AJ Bell Alpine Challenge Champions 2019!
After 2 days of great fun, good natured competition and an enormous amount of skiing, it was the team from Morzine Source Morgan Jupe who were crowned champions, closely followed in second by The Crazy 88’s with commendable joint thirds for Summit Special and Skizee Riders.
A special mention to our top 3 fundraising teams, The Jolly Boys in 3rd place, Skizee Riders in 2nd and our fundraising champions the wonderful Busy Bees on Skis. Massive thank you to everyone that took part and to all the event’s sponsors!
We ended our January on a high with the incredible City Ski Championships! We moved on from Morzine to Courmayeur, Mont Blanc where we were very pleased to be charity partner for the Championships’ twentieth anniversary.
The brilliant City Ski Championships team delivered a packed and varied programme of high-quality skiing, racing, meals, drinks and entertainment, in truly charming and historic surroundings. It really was a wonderful event.
For a second year in a row we hosted our Team Distance Challenge. Team Lloyds (pictured below) took the Team Distance Challenge Champions title from last year’s winners Walcox Warriors. Thank you to everyone who came by our stand to find out more about our essential work with young people.
This is just a snapshot of an incredible month for our charity. Our work with young people starts in February each year so January is a key time for us to run our snowsports fundraising challenges, raise awareness of our work and build new partnerships. Thank you to everyone who has supported us. We look forward to showing you the impact your kind donations have made over the next few months!
On a final note we would just like to say a huge thank you to the one and only Robbie from TracTrac (pictured below with our Founder Dan Charlish).
Not only did Robbie track every single race but he was also a massive support to the Switch180 team. From taking photos and videos to helping out at the awards ceremonies, we really couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you.
