The City Drinks event was opened by our Patron Graham Bell and Switch180 Founder Dan Charlish, and over 200 guests enjoyed a picturesque view of the River Thames and London skyline whilst hearing about the impact we’ve had on the lives of young people across the country over the last year. Patrons Jenny Jones and Warren Smith were also in attendance as well as ambassadors Emily Sarsfield and Nick Moynihan.
To start the City Drinks event guests all watched a feature about our programme Snow Camp, which was broadcast on Ski Sunday earlier this year. Guests also found out more about our unique fundraising, ski and snowboarding challenge event the Alpine Challenge before hearing moving stories from 4 of our beneficiaries. Former apprentices, Shayleigh and Asher spoke about how our programme Snow Camp creates a positive community for young people and how the charity has helped them find full time employment in the snowsports and hospitality industries. Then two of our brand new apprentices, Aaliyah and Rashane, spoke to guests about their experiences with Snow Camp so far and the positive impact the charity has on their lives. We look forward to keeping you updated on our new apprentices’ progress and experiences over the next year.
When talking to the guests Shayleigh (second from the right in the picture above) said: “I’ve been involved with Snow Camp for 3 years and Snow Camp have opened a lot of doors for me. Through my apprenticeship year they introduced me to so many roles, giving me lots of choices for my future. I always say how much Snow Camp has boosted my confidence and they’ve also taught me to never give up and in the real world that’s so relevant.
I love sharing my knowledge with the new young people, watching them grow from never being able to put on a pair of skis or strap into a board to being able to absolutely tear up the slopes is such a overwhelming feeling and over the years my love for the slopes and love for Snow Camp has only grown stronger. Young people feel like Snow-Camp is their home away from home, their safe place and for me to now be a part of their journey is nothing less then an honour!”
Public speaking is a daunting task for most people and it wasn’t easy for our young people to speak to a large audience about their personal experiences. We’re so proud that they stepped up, faced their fears and took on a challenge that is completely out of their comfort zone. Well done to all of the young people involved!
Our charity auction was another highlight of the evening. We had a number of very generous sponsors who donated various items to our charity auction from ski holidays and snowboards to artwork and wine. Thank you all for your support. We would like to say a big thank you to all the guests who bid on the auction items and to all those who bought raffle tickets, we raised over £15,000! This is an incredible figure and it will make a huge difference to the lives of many young people.
Last but not least, the evening would not have been possible without Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, who kindly hosted the event. Providing their stunning venue, the drinks and the canapes, your continued support of our work is incredible. Thank you!
