Remembering Arthur and Betty Carter

It is always a special moment for our team when a supporter gets in touch to tell us that they would like to make a donation in memory of a loved one. It’s also wonderfully touching when we are contacted with the news that one of our supporters chose to leave a legacy to us in their will.

We love to hear the stories behind the donation, to learn of a life-long love of skiing that usually inspired the donation or perhaps a passion for helping others, and we are so grateful for the opportunity that these donations create. The opportunity for Switch180 to turn around the lives of young people from disadvantaged inner-city backgrounds, giving them the chance of a lifetime to experience snowsports, gain vital life-skills training, receive qualifications and have the mental health and wellbeing support that is so needed in the current climate.

We were recently contacted by Fiona Carter, a keen skier who has followed our work over the years. Fiona told us that she would like to make an incredible donation of £3000 in the name of Arthur and Betty Carter, from the funds of their estate.

Fiona told us that:

“It is with great pleasure for me to donate funds from the estate of Arthur and Betty Carter to Switch180’s programme Snow Camp. Snow Camp do a wonderful job in helping bring out young people from difficult situations to give them a purpose in life as well as a passion for the wonderful world of skiing, snowboarding and nature. I remember when I went to work in a ski resort my first time. I had never skied before and had no idea what was waiting for me, but it taught me a lot: not only how to ski but how to work with people; how to deal with different kinds of people; how to ensure safety and care for all; and the beauty and power of nature. Oh, and how to drive in the snow! It is therefore my pleasure to be able to give others the chance to break out of the mold and find new paths in the world of mountain sports. I wish Switch180 all the best, especially in these strange times of Covid-19 pandemic, and I look forward to seeing your great work in action and supporting you in the future.”

We would like to say a big thank you to Fiona for this wonderful donation. These funds will have a tremendous and positive impact on the lives of young people, which we know Arthur and Betty would have been very proud to be a part of. These young people will now get the opportunity to share in Fiona’s love of snowsports, as well as learning many great life lessons along the way.
