13 teams raise over £14,000 at our annual Aravis Charity Golf Day

Back by popular demand, our annual charity Golf Day raised vital funds for our programme Snow Camp. It took place on September 23rd at the wonderful Bush Hill Park Golf Club, the 2021 golf club of the year no less.

For the second year running we were blessed with blue skies and very little wind. Teams set off at 9am, armed with a bacon buttie and were ready to tackle the beautiful 18-hole course. Along the way teams had the opportunity to put their skills to the test at our ‘Putting Challenge’ and also at a ‘Beat the Pro’ competition against local pro Danny Hill.

Teams also met up with two Snow Camp young people, Ewan and Dayo, who were caddies on the 6th and 12th. This gave them the perfect opportunity to tell teams about their experiences with Snow Camp and the differences we have made to their lives. Thank you to Ewan and Dayo for all your hard work!

Our Development Board member Carol Newland was providing refreshments in the form of ice cream and sloe gin on the 7th and 11th, a welcome break which galvanised teams for the remaining holes. Finally, a golf ball prize draw featured on the 18th giving participants the chance to win some fantastic prizes.

When teams had completed their round, drinks and a delicious two course lunch were provided in the club house dining room, overlooking the 18th hole. Participants also bought raffle tickets to win some amazing prizes including a Fortnum and Mason hamper, East Coast Distillery gin box and a four ball and stay at the Archerfield Golf Club and Spa. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated prizes to support the day.

Teams were playing to win the Gregor Michie Memorial Trophy, which was won last year by the Chamonix Veterans. Gregor was our wonderful Treasurer for many years, a keen golfer and friend. Gregor passed away in November 2018 after a long and brave battle with cancer, the cup is named in his honour.

Congratulations to our winners, the Bush Belles, for an excellent round scoring 97 and winning the Gregor Michie trophy. Team captain and Bush Hill Park Golf Club Chair Billy Newland was delighted. She said “we love hosting the Charity Golf Day, it is such a fantastic event, and the teams were all great fun. We were delighted to win and will look forward to defending our title next year.”

Aravis Capital have already put their names down, CEO James Alexander (pictured below, far right) said: “Aravis were delighted to support Snow Camp at their recent Charity Golf Day at Bush Hill Park. Great golf course, great organisation on the day and I hope we all helped to raise valuable funds as well as the profile of Snow Camp’s core activities – supporting young people though their successful skiing and snowboard programmes.”

At its heart, the event was about raising money for our essential work supporting young people. Our Founder Dan Charlish said: “It was fantastic to be back at Bush Hill Park with 13 great teams enjoying a wonderful day of golf in the sunshine. The atmosphere was so positive, and it was wonderful to bring our supporters back together once again. Thanks to the generous support and donations we have received through the Golf Day we will now be able to provide more young people with vital support over the next year. Thank you. If you would like to donate to support our work further, we would be very grateful, and you can do so by clicking the button below.”
